Become a part of tomorrow’s history… today by contributing to our Palmer oral history & personal story project!

Join the Palmer Public Library, the Palmer Cultural Council, Mass Cultural Council, Palmer Historical & Cultural Center (PHCC), the Palmer Historical Commission, and the Elbow Plantation Historical Society in our new collaborative project to help preserve the amazing past of Palmer and its residents!

The goal of this project is to collect personal accounts, via recorded interviews, of life and experiences in the villages of Palmer, from each generation. Food, culture, town events, clothing, industry, recreation, weather, music, housing, library and schools are just some of the everyday topics, spanning the generations, that we’re hoping to hear about. This is just a starting point, to get you thinking about special and unique Palmer experiences to share.

To participate:

  1. Gather 10 personal items that are specific to your life in Palmer that you’d like to talk about during the interview. These can be just about anything, so be creative! Some examples are: Any item, or photo of an item, place or people that helps you tell your story is welcome. Don’t have 10 items? Find someone who can contribute as well! This can be an old school chum, neighbor, colleague, relative, or someone from a different generation (like a grandparent or a teacher). We will be scheduling individuals as well as groups who have shared the same experiences.
  2. Decide if you would like to record on your own at home (see link to instructions below) or schedule a time to record in the studio. Studio recordings will be conducted at M-PACT public access television.
  3. If you’d like to record in the studio, call the library at (413)283-3330, ext. 109, and ask for Helene or Amy. Or complete and submit the form at the bottom of this page. We’ll schedule a brief pre-interview meeting where we review all the details, and schedule your M-PACT appointment.

We’re looking forward to hearing your great Palmer stories and memories!
